His Eye Is On the Sparrow

Two weeks ago today Tom was moved into the Kobacker House.  When Tom was settled into his room Sarah commented on the wonderful bird feeder, just outside the window, and said, "God has dad under His wing".
For You have been a refuge for me,
A tower of strength against the enemy.
Let me dwell in Your tent forever;
Let me take refuge in the shelter of Your wings.
For You have heard my vows, O God;
You have given me the inheritance of those who fear Your name.
Psalm 61:3-5

Today a dear friend sent me the lyrics of an old hymn to encourage me:

Children of the Heavenly Father
Safely in His bosom gather
Nestling bird nor star in heaven
Such a refuge e'er was given...

God His own doth tend and nourish
In His holy courts they flourish
From all evil things He spares them
In His mighty arms He bears them

Neither life nor death shall ever
From the Lord His children sever
Unto them His grace He showeth
And their sorrows all He knoweth

Though He giveth or He taketh
God His children ne'er forsaketh
His the loving purpose solely
To preserve them pure and holy

Lo their very hairs He numbers
And no daily care encumbers
Them that share His ev'ry blessing
And His help in woes distressing

Praise the Lord in joyful numbers
Your Protector never slumbers
At the will of your Defender
Ev'ry foe man must surrender.

Children of the Heavenly Father
Safely in His bosom gather
Nestling bird nor star in heaven
Such a refuge e'er was given

Today upon our arrival to Tom's room my sister-in-love, Cheryl, noticed a small sparrow "sleeping" with his head tucked under his wing on Tom's patio.  We kept an eye on the little guy and later noticed he had taken his last breath.  With tears of sadness we realized God knew that today would be the sparrow's last day to flutter here on earth just as God knows when Tom's last breath will be.  As hard as this has been we continue to trust God for His perfect plan and timing.

At the church I grew up in, that song was always sung when babies were baptized. From birth to death it is comforting to know He is with us. We are continuing to pray that His presence would be a comfort to you every minute...

Lisa, I have never commented on any of your entries but look for them faithfully and am so encouraged by them. God has allowed His Word to be received richly in your soul and being! When we say that all things are for our good it's hard to imagine that with such deep trials. Reading your blog, like others walking in trials, you can see the goodness of God over and over again. We miss so many blessings by not seeing God in the trials and only in the things that we as humans deem good. It's not easy to walk where God has called you all to walk but you have faithfully followed His leading and with that have gloried God in each step of it! Thanks for being transparent and sharing your hearts and lives. Only wish us that are in Florida were closer to give you a hug now and then. Nothing like a God inspired hug is there? We continue to pray for you all. Love in Christ, Laura
